SOLD A truly fabulous 100% silk super-floaty chiffon, flowing many-layered rich-bohemian dress by the one and only Nancy Johnson, whose gorgeous vintage-inspired designs graced the pages of famed Victoria magazine in the 1980s (Victoria magazine, August 1988, pgs. 76-87)---her beautiful fabrics and very vintage style designs are strongly reminiscent of 1920's and 1930's style. When I saw this dress I was very much reminded of the famous pink dance dress that Elizabeth Taylor wore in "Giant" (see last photo)--it has that same kind of dreamy, timeless charm! This one is so gorgeously feminine with its exquisite print of a lacy white floral on soft raspberry rose/pink--all of the fabrics Nancy used in her creations have such a wonderful vintage look. Full floaty bias-cut silk chiffon double skirt, lined bodice, double layered fluted-ruffle sleeves and a deep cape collar that is ruffled and centered in front with a self-fabric silk chiffon rose. Multi-paneled and gathered to be ultra-swirly! See all photos for all the views of this beautiful vintage dress. Timeless beauty and style that transcends decades---a perfect dance, vintage tea, wedding or garden party dress.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE, please be sure to read ALL of the description especially the measurements and condition, and examine ALL the photos, BEFORE asking questions; and do be absolutely positive this piece will fit your requirements, as there are no refunds or returns.
I'm a degreed and experienced textile scientist/antique garment restorer and seamstress, and I very, very carefully note any and all condition issues or repairs to every piece of antique/vintage clothing that I'm selling, so I can't stress enough that even if they're in pristine condition, remember they are all decades old and NOT new clothing, so if you desire modern perfection please don't purchase vintage! I don't do layaways or take offers, so please don't ask, thank you. Jewelry/accessories/props in photos are not included and not for sale.
I love antique and vintage clothing and have collected it for years, as well as having a longtime design career including doing costume & restoration work for major movie studios and museums....I've translated that love to my own contemporary creations as well as now offering some choice pieces of my extremely large collection of vintage and antique beauties!
Measurements of this wonderful dress are as follows:
Bust max: up to about 37"--this has a princess-seamed bodice and a back zipper.
Hip: free, flared bias cut double skirt is very full
Skirt length from waist is approx. 30-31", keep in mind this may fall shorter on longer depending on the size of one's hips
Length is 48" from shoulder to hem; this fits and drapes SO beautifully on the body for a multitude of sizes, as you can see. Mannequin is approx. 5' 6" and a modern size 8 and it fits perfectly on that size. I believe this could fit from a modern size 4/6 up to an 8 (but check measurements to be sure!), definitely no larger than that.
Condition: Excellent, no stains, spots or rips/holes, clean, no staining or underarm discoloration, I cannot find any issues. Beautiful fabric! Labels intact, "Nancy Johnson", 100% silk and a vintage size 10 tag. Please keep in mind that vintage sizes are smaller, so this is basically a modern 8.
Please make sure this will suit you as to measurements and style before you purchase; I don't do alterations or accept returns.....Also, please be sure to read my shop policies/shipping info in full before you purchase (click on "policies" on my main shop page). Do check my other listings for more gorgeous vintage and antique clothing including many more silk 70's and 80's designer pieces coming up very soon, as well as my own very popular antique-style hats, accessories & vintage/antique china and decor items.....I try to list new items at least weekly....Thanks for visiting!
