I love antique and vintage clothing and have collected it for years, as well as having a longtime design career including doing costume & restoration work for major movie studios and museums....Am now translating that love to my own contemporary creations and using all the fine extraordinary antique and vintage materials, laces, trims, beads etc that I've collected for more than 30 years in these wonderful pieces....along with the finest of hand sewing and one of a kind details. Everything I create is individually hand made solely by me and has the very best of my carefully hoarded private stash of superb old accents (I use ONLY vintage materials that are in pristine, freshly-cleaned condition---no deteriorating, too-aged or rotting pieces EVER) plus the finest of modern silks, cottons and wools that I can find.....resulting in a fabulous truly authentic vintage look piece. Impeccable professional workmanship and design are the hallmarks here...
This incredible piece was inspired by my lifelong love and study of Ancient Egypt, its designs and decor...This exquisite totally handmade pillow is a nice extra large size to accommodate all the fantastic detail...the pillow itself is made of very rich materials: the background material of the front is a very rare, out of print and expensive fabric called "Valley of the Kings" featuring intricate ancient Egyptian lotus designs in soft blues and shimmering metallic gold; the back of the pillow is antique deep blue silk satin woven with a pattern of grapes, which matches the other blues of the design perfectly. The front features handsewn applied different bands of some of my fabulous stash of antique trims, including woven metallic golds, various 19th-century silk banding in shades of blues and metallic gold, and a blue and very shimmery gold linen stripe that is "weathered" to look old....just fantastic and so in keeping with the ancient Egyptian color scheme and style. In the center is a gorgeous print on fine cotton of a handsome young Egyptian man (likely a high priest since he is wearing the leopard skin of that order) making an offering to the god Ra. This image is a painting by Sir Edward Poynter, painted in 1867 and entitled "Adoration to Ra". at the four corners bordering this magnificent portrait, I've hand-sewn brass Art Deco ornaments topped with little black Pharaonic scarabs, and at the outer corners of the striped metallic linen, I've placed four amazing antique brass Pharaoh head ornaments, along with a vintage brass winged scarab at the top......All this catches the light so exquisitely and glowingly wherever the pillow is placed.....truly a pillow fit for the bed or couch of royalty! All elements of this pillow are very meticulously sewn; all of the trims, embroideries and added elements are HAND SEWN on to the pillow front, not done by machine--strictly old-school craftsmanship.
Measurements of this beauty are: a big 16" by 17" square; it's plump and substantial.
